The Johnston-Nims House (also locally referred to as The Spratt House) built in the 1820's as a 2-story Federal Style house, was originally on 400 acres in an area known as Woodlawn (now Mt. Holly), just 14 mi NW of downtown Charlotte. It's been the home of prominent local figures, a one time governor of AL, & even housed refugees during the Civil War. The original home was only 4 rooms (two up and two down) w/chimneys at each end. It's been expanded many times over the years but lots of original architectural details remain.
